Singer Adele is turning vegetarian to lose weight after fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld called her “too fat.”

The 33-year-old Grammy winner and her 36-year-old charity campaigner boyfriend Simon Konecki have followed a strict vegetarian diet for the past one month and have lost almost a stone. The couple goes for jogging every morning.

“The weight is dropping off them and they plan to keep dieting until the end of April,” the Daily Mail reported quoting a friend of the 23-year-old Grammy winner, who lives with Konecki in a rented £6million pile in West Sussex.

“They are inseparable – they are losing weight together, getting fit together and planning a future together. Adele says she’s doing her best work and feels healthier than she has for months,” he added.

Adele has been working out with a personal trainer twice a week at her home and has reportedly quit smoking.

“Adele has found so much more energy now she’s quit smoking. She really wants to get healthier, now that she’s half-way there,” the Sun reported, quoting a source.

“She had always been curious about taking up Pilates but until recently there just hadn’t been any time.”

You Docs: Worried about arsenic levels in your food?

Worried about brown rice because of arsenic? You’re not alone. News about alarming levels of arsenic in rice-based toddler formulas, cereal bars and energy shots may leave you wondering if it’s time to back away from this iconic health food. While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration looks into the problem, we YOU Docs have a healthier plan!

You’ve probably heard by now that rice has a talent for pulling arsenic from soil and water wherever it grows. The toxin accumulates in the grain’s bran and germ — the most nutritious parts of the grain!

But it’s the rice-intensive processed foods that may be the bigger worry. A recent study found that toddler formulas containing organic brown rice syrup had arsenic levels six times higher than federal standards for the toxin in drinking water. And that arsenic levels also were worrisome in snack bars and energy ‘shots’ containing one or more rice ingredients — OBSR, plus rice flour, plus rice bran, for instance.

What’s the worry? We know from studies of arsenic in drinking water that long-term exposure increases your risk for heart disease and many cancers.. We don’t know yet about the long-term effects of a rice-heavy diet: whether it’s harmful to little kids sipping OBSR formulas and munching lots of rice-based foods or to older kids and adults who may lean on rice in order to avoid gut problems with wheat or gluten.

Right now, there are no standards for arsenic in food. Until we have some, the news about rice is a great opportunity to give your plate (and sippy cup) a healthy tune-up:

Diversify. A serving of rice a couple of times a month is probably A-OK. The rest of the time, try something new — amaranth, buckwheat, millet, quinoa, teff or wild rice (it’s not actually a grain) are great alternatives. If no one in your household has a gluten intolerance, adding barley, rye, triticale and oats to your meal rotation will please palates, too.

Swap OBSR for fruit. Organic brown rice syrup’s been a darling of the organic food industry and is often touted as a “better” alternative to high fructose corn syrup or cane sugar. Nonsense! A sweetener is a sweetener is a sweetener. Ditch those cereal bars (and energy shots that athletes and weekend warriors rely on for a burst of steam) for fresh fruit. A handful of strawberries, naturally-sweet mango, a juicy Clementine or a fill-you-up banana … you get the idea.

Instead of rice milk and OBSR-based toddler formulas: Try calcium-fortified soy milk, almond milk, a rice-free infant formula or breast milk. Two years ago, Britain’s Food Standards Agency recommended that toddlers and little kids shouldn’t be given rice milk as a replacement for formula, cow’s milk or mother’s milk. The reason? Low levels of arsenic in rice drinks that could add up to a big dose for tykes, who drink a lot of milk every day.

Think twice about rice bran. The fiber-packed outer layer of rice seems like a healthy, natural ingredient. That’s why you’ll find it in a slew of high-fiber breakfast cereals, tucked into all sorts of baked goods and available in bulk for home cooking, too. For now, you may want to consider breakfast cereals and other products made with other grains: Rice bran, it turns out, may have 10 to 20 times more arsenic for the same weight as brown rice, and brown rice more than twice as much as plane white rice.

Get smart about arsenic in juice and water, too. High levels of inorganic arsenic have also been found in some brands of apple and grape juice. Sidestep it by “eating your juice” — having fresh fruit instead. An estimated 56 million North Americans also may be drinking tap water containing higher-than-healthy levels of arsenic; find out with a well test or info from your local water supplier.

Raspberry Ketone Diet Body Lotion Launched by Golden Essence Skincare to Help …

Beth Golden, PhD, Formulator

In addition to melting fat, when applied topically to the face and other areas of concern, our Raspberry Ketone Body Lotion has extraordinary anti-aging benefits to help retard the formation of wrinkles and increase skin elasticity, says Beth Golden, PhD.

St. Petersburg, FL (PRWEB) March 31, 2012

Golden Essence Skincare, maker of Oil Free HCG Diet Skincare, has launched a Raspberry Ketone Diet Body Lotion to help burn fat without the need for pills.

As recently seen on Dr. Oz, Red Raspberry Ketones are being touted as a “weight loss miracle” and recommended to support weight loss. A clinical research study from 2004 showed that that when mice were fed a high fat diet along with Raspberry Ketones, they melted fat, increased resting metabolism and lost this fat with no other change in their diet. Mice fed a high fat diet without Raspberry Ketones did not produce the same results.(1)

Japanese and Korean researchers studying Raspberry Ketones have shown that ketones regulate Adiponectin, support lipolysis (the breakdown of fat) and thermogenesis (the process of turning fat into energy) and increase skin’s elasticity. Adiponectin is a hormone that helps the body to act thin and creates a boost in metabolism. In turn, the fat within cells gets broken up more effectively, helping the body burn fat faster and more efficiently. As people gain weight, Adiponectin’s ability to function is reduced which decreases the breakdown of fat and increases the storage of fat in the cells.

Raspberry Ketone is considered to be one of the safest and most natural supplements for losing weight. Additionally, the Ketone is the element responsible for the aroma and sweet smell of the Red Raspberry (Rubus Idaeus) and it is believed that this characteristic also gives the Ketones the propensity to suppress appetite. Raspberry Ketone (Rubus Idaeus) is not only included in therapeutic levels, but is the natural, pure essential oil in Golden Essence’s Oil Free Body Lotion that gives it the fat reducing and anti-aging properties. The Raspberry Body Lotion is also registered and rated with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. As a Champion supporter of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, Golden Essence has formulated their [Raspberry Ketone Body Lotion to be free of toxic chemicals, toxic synthetic fragrances and toxic carcinogenic paraben preservatives, all of which have been linked to cancer and other health problems.

Studies show that ninety pounds (90 lbs) of raspberries would need to be consumed in order to process enough Raspberry Ketone to effect the way the body burns excess fat. However, a single application of the Raspberry Ketone Body Lotion applied daily is enough to get the body efficiently burning fat. “In addition to melting fat, when applied topically to the face and other areas of concern, the Raspberry Ketone lotion has extraordinary anti-oxidant and anti-aging benefits to help retard the formation of wrinkles and increase skin elasticity”, says Beth Golden, PhD, Formulator. Documented research has been done on the effect of topical application of raspberry ketone on dermal production of insulin-like growth factor-I in mice and on hair growth and skin elasticity in humans. 2

The Raspberry Ketone Body Lotion, as well as the entire HCG Diet Skincare line by Golden Essence, is available for purchase online at HCGDietSkincare.com and HCGDietPlan.com. It is also available throughout the US, Canada, Trinidad and Puerto Rico in Medical Clinics, HCG Diet Clinics, Medi-spas, specialty salons, massage establishments, massage schools, retail specialty locations, health food stores and Chiropractors’ offices. HCG Diet Skincare also offers an affiliate program and other online sales programs for those in the HCG Diet industry or for individuals looking to supplement their income through the well-known HCG Diet.

Choose 2 Lose Weight Loss Challenge promotes a healthy lifestyle – The Herald

The Awesome Augustines — Niel and Charlene Augustine of Smithsburg — began the Waynesboro YMCA’s Choose 2 Lose Weight Loss Challenge with their eye on winning the competition.

But the Smithsburg couple soon re-evaluated their goals.

“We started out trying to win, but then it became a lifestyle change and we focused on living healthier and getting into an exercise program,” said Charlene Augustine, 48.

The 12-week weight loss challenge kicked off Jan. 2 and ended with Saturday’s weigh-out celebration at the YMCA.

The Augustines lost 32 pounds as a team.

“We haven’t really dieted. We still go out to eat when we can. I still have my cheeseburgers when I want. But I’ll get vegetables instead of fries,” said Niel Augustine, 49.

“I think we did very well,” Charlene Augustine said.

Both plan to continue their new, healthier lifestyle and have an added incentive — a 9-month-old grandson.

“I want to make sure I’m healthy enough to get down and play with him and enjoy our lives with him,” Charlene Augustine said.

The challenge kicked off with 104 participants, but only 30 completed the program on Saturday, said James Bailes, YMCA director of sports and fitness.

Bailes said he was a little disappointed that only about one-third of the participants completed the program that combined exercise, nutrition and healthy eating.

But he still considers the challenge a success and plans to offer the program again next year.

“The entire group lost 401.2 pounds in 12 weeks. That’s a great thing to accomplish,” Bailes said. “We have people who weren’t exercising before, and now they have fit it into their lifestyle.”

Jim and Mary Black retired from teaching in July and decided to take the challenge.

“We did it to lose weight and increase our stamina and strength,” said Mary Black, 62.

“Plus, we just recently retired from teaching. We didn’t want to sit around and be couch potatoes,” said Jim Black, 64.

Mary retired from Washington County Public Schools as a first-grade teacher after 34 years and Jim retired as a physical education and health teacher after 39 years.

Not only did the couple lose a combined 17 pounds, but also they gained strength and stamina.

“I feel good. I feel a lot stronger,” Mary Black said.

Teammates Carroll Sturm and David Boon, both of Waynesboro, earned third-place honors and three-month YMCA memberships for losing the highest percentage of weight during the challenge.

During the 12-week period, team New Tricks lost 45 pounds that Boon said is proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

One of the “new tricks” that Boon said he learned was joining a group can help with the weight loss process.

“This is the first time I joined a group to lose weight, and the group support is very good,” Boon said. “They are not watching over my shoulder, but I am always thinking that March 31 is my target. And keeping that in mind, I think, don’t eat this or it will show up on the scale.”

With the goal of losing some unwanted pounds, Sturm used an exercise bicycle to peddle his way to physical fitness.

“It makes you feel better,” Sturm said. “It’s easier to walk around with less weight.”

He plans to continue eating healthier and exercising.

My belated New Year’s Resolution: How The Clean Program tidied up my eating

Failing to heed Kim Zolciak’s “Don’t be Tardy for the Party” advice, I got a bit of a late start on my New Year’s Resolution for 2012. As hard as I tried to be good and not give into the food temptations, the holidays were just not kind to me. I’m fairly certain I ate my body weight in green and red MMs one day during the holiday break. Ew.

Realizing things were getting a bit out of control and having visions of becoming the newest addition on the Biggest Loser compound next season if my habits continued, I needed to snap out my cycle of unhealthy eating before I found myself furiously sprinting on a treadmill as Jillian Michaels barked orders at me two inches from my face..

Trying to decide the right way to go about this was about as overwhelming as digging through the heaps of racks at Forever 21 — so many options seemed so daunting. A few friends shared some of their tips and tricks, including lackluster stories after embarking on those fad juice cleanses. But that just didn’t seem permanent enough for what I was looking for. Plus, I really thought I’d miss the act of chewing after seven days of sole juice consumption through a straw.

Enter The Clean Program. Originally stumbled upon via ol’ Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop newsletter, this seemed like a great answer to what I’d been seeking. And hey, if this was good enough for Gwyneth, it was good enough for me. (Side note to give her mad props Tom Ford white cape Oscar’s outfit. I die). Demi Moore also lists herself as a fan of the program, which confused me as I didn’t notice whip-its being included on the plan. Too soon?

Designed by Dr. Alejandro Junger, the cleanse consists of a 21-days detoxification and  intended to inspire long-term habits for a healthier lifestyle. Here’s how the program works: you drink a Clean shake for breakfast, eat a lunch incorporating foods from the prescribed Elimination Diet, and then finish your day with another Clean shake. Additionally, you take sixteen plant-based supplements a day to further support the detoxification process.

Designed by Dr. Alejandro Junger, the cleanse consists of a 21-days detoxification and  intended to inspire long-term habits for a healthier lifestyle.

To be honest, the scariest parts for me were the thought of giving up my morning cup of coffee that I deeply yearned for every single day just as soon as my annoying alarm blared, and the absence of having wine or any sort of alcohol for 21 days. Before you fully cringe, check out these key selling points: no heavy exercise recommended (think light walks or yoga) and weekly massages are encouraged to help rid toxins.

The first couple of days majorly sucked: I had headaches, felt flu-like symptoms, wanted to sleep all day and, surprisingly, missed the opportunity to go work up a sweat at the gym.

Despite all those early signals of deep detoxification taking place, I was oddly never hungry. In fact, I often had to force the evening shake down as I didn’t think I had room for anything else. Those shakes sure seemed to be packed with all the right nutrients and vitamins to keep me feeling full all day.

As the days progressed, I slowly started realizing the benefits. I have never slept so soundly in my life, noticed my cravings for sweets and unhealthy food completely passed, and felt my skin more luminous with an allover healthy glow.

As an inspirational motivator, one of my dear friends promised me a huge celebratory dinner at the location of my choice as soon as I finished the adrudous 21 day trek. Originally dreaming of indulging in a vat of queso complete with margaritas and beef quesadillas, by the time our dinner came around I didn’t even want any of the aforementioned items because I felt so much better with this new way of “clean eating.”

Realistically speaking I’m not sure I am forever immune from having another cup of coffee with skim milk, or enjoying an occassional glass of wine with dinner, or ever having shellfish again. But I am significantly more aware of what I’m putting in my mouth and vow to reduce my intake of processed and unhealthy foods.

And please remind me to reread this article as this year’s holiday season kicks into full swing so I don’t find myself in an MM induced coma.

Saskatoon Restaurant Announces Paleo Low Carb Plan That Will Eliminate the Time Crunch As the Reason People Cannot Lose Weight

Many people want to lose weight. However, very few people are successful in their efforts because in today’s busy world, other things such as work or kids take precedence over their diet plans. It’s simply too tough in today’s hectic world. Edmund Woo, Chef and Owner of Saskatoon: Steaks Fish and Wild Game, believes his new program of Chef prepared Paleo Low Carb Diet Meals is the solution is to losing weight while saving time.

Greenville, SC (PRWEB) March 31, 2012

The people who want to lose weight are legion. Diet and exercise books are perennial bestsellers at the local bookstore or on Amazon. Television is inundated with advertisements of this diet or that diet. Do a search on Google for diet plan and you would come up with 16,000,000 + searches.

Yet despite all of these diet books, diet products and diet plans, most people fail in their efforts to lose weight. Or if they have some success at losing some weight, they cannot keep the weight off. Are all these diet books and products wrong? Are these diet plans hoaxes?

An exercise and diet fanatic, the 17 year owner/chef of Saskatoon: Steaks, Fish and Wild Game in Greenville, SC, Edmund Woo, says, “People most often fail in their quest to lose weight is because of their lack of time… not a lack of willpower.”

How does time sabotage weight loss?

First, it takes time to buy all of ingredients and supplies it takes to prepare and support a successful weight and fat loss diet. And most grocery stores don’t stock all the needed supplies. This makes it a nightmare just on the shopping side for most diets.

Plus, it takes more time to prepare all of the different dishes for every meal. This could be 30 minutes or more for breakfast and lunch and perhaps up to an hour to prepare dinners. And, this stat is for someone already handy in the kitchen. In today’s hustle and bustle world, almost no one has two to three extra hours a day too cook.

As a result, people fall back into bad habits. They eat what they have available or what they can make easy. Or, even worse, on the run, they go to fast food outlets and eat food laden with fat and empty calories. The result: No weight loss.

After observing this problem for years, Edmund Woo has come up with a new successful diet plan that solves the lack of time road block to weight loss. Through his restaurant, Saskatoon, Edmund offers a new program of Chef prepared, precooked delicious meals based on the Paleo Low Carb diet. The meal plan offers vacuum sealed nutritionally balanced meals that can be reheated in just minutes. Every Monday evening, clients who have and are successfully losing weight through the program, pick up their food for the entire week.

Edmund says, “We provide all of the meals for you. You don’t have to use your time up for shopping or cooking. I guarantee if you eat all of your meals and snacks and don’t cheat by eating anything else, you will definitely lose weight and feel and look better!”

The Chef and Owner of Saskatoon: Steaks Fish and Wild Game, Edmund Woo dispenses free diet and exercise tips through emails that people can sign up for at: http://www.saskatoonrestaurant.com/paleo-meal-plans.html

The free emails detail Edmund Woo’s researched and refined Paleo Low Carb Diet plan proven to lose weight fast. Edmund Woo’s emails are becoming a weekly diet to help people wanting to lose fat, gain muscle and get into the best shape of their lives.
